Special Projects
Michael is responsible for managing the production design and implementation of all technical aspects (lighting, audio, media, show control, show action equipment, staging technologies, etc.) for Thinkwell’s multitude of design and production projects. In short, he is responsible for aiding the team in translating “creative” into “reality”.
Thinkwell’s Jurassic Park Institute Tour was of particular interest to Michael, because the team was able to create and produce a new kind of immersive exhibit/attraction. The 50,000 square foot touring exhibit had to be produced in a tremendously short time, but it gave him yet another chance to work in Japan.
Michael’s professional career spans more than 20 years as a lighting and technical designer for the entertainment and themed architecture industries. He has received numerous awards for his lighting design work, including two IESNA Lumen West Awards, the Edwin Muth Award of Excellence, and the Lighting Designer of the Year award from Lighting Dimensions International. His technical design work has been featured in five separate projects to receive the TEA’s Thea Award for excellence in attraction design.
Michael’s lighting design credits include Universal Studios Japan restaurant and retail facilities; Universal Studios Islands of Adventure’s Seuss Landing in Orlando; Star Trek World Tour for Paramount Studios; Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton; Caesars Magical Empire in Las Vegas; Storyland Junction theme park in Manila, and many others. His technical design credits include the Dinosaur and Toy Story 2 temporary attractions at the El Capitan in Hollywood; Caesars Magical Empire; the now-closed Ghostbusters attraction at Universal Studios Florida, and Sanrio Puroland theme park in Japan.
